Philosophy Books?

Claude Gloden: I did Sophie's World and To Kill A Mockingbird for philosphy's class back in 8th and 9th grade -- and I think they both are great books.Otherwise, Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche is a really good one.Have you tried any other ones of Plato's? The Apology is the only one I've read. It's pretty awesome....Show more

Lewis, is about 150 pages, mostly easy-to-understand examples of ethics."Nihilism," Father Seraphim Rose, is not so easy to find (interlibrary loan?), but at 120 pages it is great on most recent 500 years of Western philosophy."A Philosophy of Universality," O. M. Aivanhov, is great because it is a collection of talks to a general audience."The Path of Virtue," Jonathan Murro, is about the essence of ethics across the world's great traditions, with more pages than the other three listed above....Show more

Tyree Allenbrand: The History of Western Philosophy By Bertrand Russell andThe Story of Philosophy by Will Durant are both timeless and invaluable overviews that anyone with an interest in the topic would do well to seek out. Both will also show you areas you want to explore further. They should be readily available, either new or used. Another book I have enjoyed but which may be more difficult to find is entitled The Fundamental Questions of Philosophy and is by A. C. Ewing....Show more
