They do not have inputs for A/V signals, such as from a console.They usually have dual tuner, and quite often have HD. You usually have to rent them or buy them at a subsidized discount, and pay a monthly fee to use them.Standalone DVRs mostly work with any analog video source, usually with minimal automation, and have no fee, but you need to pay their full worth.
