Buying car off craigslist. Is this a good deal? Are there any other safety measures we should take?

Maryland Gareau: be careful of what they offer on craigs list, that site is riddled with fraud and crooks.

Angel Klym: check online, Used car scams.com. also used car sales.com.

Kim Gerbino: it Sounds ok to just make sure the vin # on the tittle and car match take it to your mechanic and let them look it over make sure the check engine light is not on

Jen Maday: Well the first thing you should do is take it to your own mechanic and have him check out the engine. Second thing would be to take it on a test drive on the highway and drive it for 30 minutes or more. You can see how it handles at top speed and how it controls on the road. Make sure all your break lights, turn signals, Hazards, and lights are in working order. AC is also super important. When your done test driving check to see if there is any fluid dripping from the engine. After you have done all of that, it should be pretty safe to buy a used car-as is. As far as that car-fax report, they ar! e not as accurate as people thing they are. I purchased a Yukon that came with one and later found out it was in a rear end impact with heavy damage.Good Luck!...Show more

Lionel Tanen: I would bring your own mechanic to check the car out. It may not be heater season yet, but check that out and make sure it works well. Also check the AC and make sure that works too. As the other answerer said, car faxes are not always accurate. Things don't get reported. You said absolutely nothing about the title. Have you seen that? Make sure there is no lien on the vehicle. Some states the owner has the title even though there is a lien on the vehicle. f there is a lien, then they can't legally sell it until it has been paid off. If there is a lien, and they say it has been paid, make sur you get a lien release. This has to be from the bank where the lien was issued, Some states there is a special form that the lien holder needs to have filled out. But whatever it is! , it needs to be from the lien holder. ...Show more
