how much time does it take to set up and maintain a vegetable garden?

Galen Gowers: Depends on the veggies. Tomatoes can be in the ground or in containers. Maintenance is staking them up so they don't break and water. Green beans just need to be watered then picked. Lettuce and Kale.....watered and picked. Green peppers the same. Good luck with your veggie garden

Long Woltjer: It does not really need daily maintenance. I water mine twice a week if there is no rain and I weed when it is needed. Nature does most of the work.

Devon Kalberer: It really depends on how much space you have and what you want to grow. As for myself, I use the square foot gardening method; you can grow more things in the least amount of space. Either way, it does take some time to prepare a garden site; are you going to use a rototiller and plant in rows? Are you planning to grow in containers? Or are you planning a square foot garden? Every garden needs regular maintenance, to check for pests, growth, weeds, diseases, or to harvest your crop. You als! o may need to water your garden if it is too dry.Feel free to email me if you want more information. I hope this helps....Show more

Sabra Roers: I like to check on mine everyday. However you can get by with just a weekend check up. You must remember all plants grow on their own somewhere.

Son Ahlers: I just recently planted mine, and pretty much just have to spend a few minutes watering, because it is really dry here right now. I tilled the soil very well, so I don't have any weeds. Everything I planted is coming up, too. Can hardly wait for the corn!

Luke Creitz: There are few ways to go about it. How you do it will affect the answer. You can do a traditional garden (lots of work and maintenance), deep bed gardens (some work up front and then light maintenance), or patio type square foot gardening (containers/tiny plots and low maintenance if done right).I would suggest getting info on the web on the deep bed and square foot gardening before you start. ! What you want to do with your garden will determine how much ! work and what type you use more than anything else so planning and learning is a must. That can be a lot of fun as a weekend hobby for quite some time in itself:). I have enjoyed organic deep bed gardening as a hobby for over 35 yrs and will be doing it as a buisiness soon so beware... if you like it you'll get addicted. Good luck....Show more

Judie Kise: Actually at first it is time consuming, you must till, get out weeds, fertilize soil, plant and water, after planting, water weed and enjoy. You could water everyother day and weed on weekends
