what is difference between optical density and conventional density?

Jinny Dronen: Density of material is the mass per unit volume.Optical density is the speed of light in vacuum /speed of light in a medium or it is called refractive index of the medium. When the speed of light in one medium is lesser than that of the other , the former one is said to be more denser than the latter. glass is more denser optically than water .Water has a density of 1000 kg/m^3 and benzene has a density of 879 kg /m^3.The refractive index of water is 1.343 where as the refractive index of benzene is 1.5011.Optically benzene is denser than water.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...Show more
