Best ethnic restaurant in Houston?

Ezekiel Kadner: Can the food be too good or staff be too great? If so, then I would have to rate Lopez Mexican Restaurant down. But if you like great food, friendly service that anticipates and attends to your needs without "hovering" and at a reasonable price that permits families to eat here without destroying your budget - then I give this a five!I came across Lopez by accident, I was actually looking for another place to check out. However the parking lot full of cars got me interested. As I pulled up I asked a couple who was leaving if they thought it was good. His response was, "where have you been all of however old you are?" he then cautioned me not to ask what was good, "it is all good" he said. As I entered, I noticed the smiles on many of the customers and staff. I was promptly seated and in less than 30 seconds I was asked what I wanted to drink and if I would like an apatizer. Throughout dinner, the staff kept my drink full and replinished the salsa each time! it got down to about half full.I had fajitas (beef) for one. There was really enough for two (and I am NOT a light eater, ask my doctor who says I must lose 50 pounds) and the meat was surprisingly tender. So that you don't think I work here the only "ding" I have was that it is noisy - so many people here talking, laughing and even crying (a little child at the table next to me) means that this is not a place for quiet conversation. I have a hearing impediment and it difficult for me to hear the server respond to my questions. But given the food, service and friendly atmosphere where families are welcomed - I am prepared to tolerate it....Show more
