Buddy Ardd: Faraaz, no, I for one do not recommend sleeping pills. Yes you can get up and walk around to stretch your legs, after the seat belt sign is off. Not for long though, only a short time, if everyone got up and walked around, you would have chaos. My flights are usually business flights, so I have work to keep me busy till i get bored, then i feel like sleeping, I don't fight it, i turn the light off above me and drift off. I usually have my laptop, and I play casino games like blackjack, slots, Texas Holdem.what I discovered Faraaz that bores the crap out of me within 30 minutes, are those Search A Word puzzle books, my eyes start to feel heavy, and I am gone like a shot. Because your 17, I can not suggest you have a good shot of bourbon, the cabin crew have your age on the passenger manifest. Nothing stopping your and your brother playing poker, for nickels and dims, as long as you don't try and kill each other...........and no you can't go to the galley and ch! at up one of the gorgeous cabin crew. Just think about it, have a think of what I have suggested to you and go from there. At least your not doing an 18 or 27 hour flights like I do normally....Show more
Sammie Bocanegra: Faraaz,First, to your concern -- the reason why bookstores do so well in airports is on account of the impulse buy. You can pick up a book and guarantee yourself hours of entertainment. (I've seen my novels and my wife's in there as well, so I can vouch for them! *LOL*) If you're not a reader, there are kiosks available in the terminal where you can rent a portable DVD player and several movies. At the end of the trip, you can then return player and movies at a kiosk at your destination. If you want to trust your own entertainment, you can always pack your PC or Mac with movies and watch them on the plane. (Have spare batteries on call.) You have the same option with portable media like iPads, Kindle Fires, and Nook Tablets. The Cousins -- To best ans! wer this question, I can give you the story of my own daughter! whom at 5 was destined with me from Washington D.C. to New Zealand. 16 hours on a plane. I purchased an iPad for her, and loaded it with cartoons, movies, and games. I also packed books and activity books. She never cracked any of them open on the trip over the Pacific. Instead, she was fascinated by the "Airtrip" animation (the map that tells you where you are, airspeed, time to destination, etc.) from the time we left LAX to when we landed in Auckland. (During the drive from Auckland to Wellington, though, she plugged into her iPad.) So it is hard to say exactly what will and will not work to entertain your cousins. The good news is if you prepare options (portable player, DVDs, activity books) and couple with that the on-board entertainment systems (Virgin and Air NZ have the best, in my experience) and the experience with travel (yes, once the captain says it's okay, you can move all about the cabin as much as you wish), you should be covered and able to keep them occu! pied. If they have pajamas and a favorite blanket, pack that as well. They are going to want to sleep on the plane for the last leg (USA mainland to HI) of the trip otherwise the jetlag will be killer. And drink water. DRINK. DRINK. DRINK. WATER. On such a long trip you can dehydrate.Good luck....Show more
Charlotte Bryar: Play cards, watch movies and tv (There are lots and lots of movie options with the entertainment systems), read books, listen to music, draw, etc...And yes you can get out of your seat and stretch/walk around/go to the bathroom etc., but only when the seat belt sign is off. However they do prefer that you stay seated with your seat belt on when possible just in case there is any unexpected turbulence.By the way, you will want to sleep. On any long flight like that it becomes very miserable if you don't get any sleep. You won't need sleeping pills, but if you and your cousins get some rest then the flight won't seem as long and painful....Show more
Olen Penhallurick: You will most likely be flying on United Airline! s if you're connecting in Washington Dulles. You will be flying on a 767-300 from London to Washington. United has personal TV's in each seat back for long haul flights. Each TV has a total of nine channels with a movie looping on each one. There will be a guide for what is showing. You didn't mention when you're flying, so you will have to look once on board. From Washington to Hawaii, you will be on the same type of plane, just a longer version. You will be on a 767-400. You will have the same entertainment options on the second leg of your flight. You will want to try to take a nap. You will be leaving London in the early morning, and arriving into Hawaii in the late afternoon. That means your entire journey will be during daylight hours. There is nothing worse than flying on a long haul flight during the day. The reason is because most of the people stay awake. There are also some "considerate" customers who will not close their window shade when over the ocean. There is! nothing to see, but they insist on letting all that light into the cabin to keep everyone else awake. If you're burned out on movies, then I would bring a book. I always have a few novels downloaded to my iPad that I can whip out. It keeps the weight light and I can also do some work related stuff on the iPad as well. Use your personal electronics sparingly because if you're in economy class, you won't have access to A/C power to recharge your devices. I also don't recommend taking a sleeping pill. You won't get real rest on the plane and you will definitely feel groggy when you land in Hawaii. Just let nature run its course. Your cousins will go to sleep rather quickly. When they sleep, you should sleep! I am sure your 14 year old will be okay in terms of behavior, but entertaining a six year old can get dicey. Get up and stretch your legs often. It will help in your overall mood and health in the long run....Show more
